Former Treasury Secretary Summers Leaves from ChatGPT Maker's Leadership
Former US treasury secretary the Harvard professor is departing from the directorate at the artificial intelligence firm, just days after a series of emails between him and notorious criminal Jeffrey Epstein became publicly available.
The economist commented in a statement that he was "thankful for the chance to have served, optimistic about the prospects of the organization, and anticipate tracking their progress".
Summers, who formerly headed the prestigious university, declared on recently that he would be withdrawing from public commitments due to his association with Epstein.

The recently released messages showed that the official communicated with Jeffrey Epstein until the 24 hours preceding the financier's 2019 detention for suspected sex trafficking of young people.
In a separate statement, the technology organization said it respected Summers' determination to depart.
"We appreciate his significant contributions and the viewpoint he provided to the governing body," the organization remarked.
Legislative Background
This news follows after the two houses of Congress decided on this week to endorse a bill that would compel the US justice department to make public its records on Jeffrey Epstein.
The legislation will subsequently head to the office of the White House for approval. Trump has said he expects to sign the measure, after reversing his stance on the issue following pressure from his followers.

A collection of Epstein-related correspondence disclosed by the Congressional committee last week included numerous well-known personalities in the financier's past associates, without indicating any criminal activity by those individuals.
The emails showed that the professor and Jeffrey Epstein often met for meals, with he often trying to link the academic to influential world leaders.
Personal Response
After the emails were shared with the wider community, the former official expressed he assumed "full responsibility for my ill-advised judgment to maintain corresponding with Mr Epstein".
He further stated that he wanted "to reestablish trust and mend relationships with the individuals most important to me".
Previous Positions
The economist held high-level positions under Democratic administrations; serving as treasury secretary under the former president, and as head of the economic advisory body under Barack Obama.
He headed Harvard from the early 2000s and is still a professor there. When announcing his withdrawal from public roles previously on this week, he said he would maintain his teaching commitments.
Further Repercussions
Following Summers' declaration on Monday, the Center for American Progress, a progressive think tank in DC where Summers was a prominent member, announced that the economist was not affiliated with the institution.
The former official joined the board of the AI company, which creates ChatGPT, in 2023 - following a unsuccessful effort to replace its CEO the company leader.
