The ex-lawyer for the former president has resigned as the chief federal prosecutor in the state. This follows a judicial decision that challenged her right to hold the office.

Official Departure

US Attorney General, the Attorney General, announced Habba's resignation on the start of the week. In a statement that the judicial decision made it impossible for the official to perform her duties.

"But do not mistake adherence to the ruling as defeat," she declared. "This battle will now extend throughout America."

Judicial Challenge

Her resignation follows closely on a US appeals court ruled that she had been acting without proper authority as US attorney. This decision is expected to impact many criminal cases in New Jersey.

The court declared that a acting appointment that skirted the advice and consent of the Senate ran afoul of the federal law governing appointments.

Ongoing Legal Battle

Bondi said that she will continue working within the Department of Justice as a senior adviser. Habba plans to pursue additional appeals of the ruling, with hopes of a reversal.

Writing online, she argued that the court "must not countermand the appointment of lawyers responsible for carrying out the executive branch's core responsibility of criminal prosecution."

Record and Legacy

Bondi highlighted Habba's record and said that under her leadership, the state capital of Newark saw a one-fifth decrease in offenses. She also stated that the city of Camden experienced its first summer in 50 years without a homicide.

Legal Career

Habba, originally became part of the former president's legal defense in recent years. She later acted for the former president in his business records case in 2024, when he was guilty verdict on dozens of charges of document fraud.

Earlier, assuming the top New Jersey post, Trump had announced he was appointing her as his White House advisor during his second administration, calling her as deeply loyal and a dedicated fighter for justice.
